Communities thrive when nonprofits succeed. The National Council of Nonprofits (NCN) is a steadfast champion and trusted resource for the nation’s 1.5 million charitable nonprofits. Our member network of state associations of nonprofits forms the largest sector-wide nonprofit network in the country.
NCN drives change for the nonprofit sector through our tireless advocacy, effective communication, education, and capacity building. These efforts advance a more connected and powerful nonprofit community equipped to champion the public good.
NCN is the only organization watching out for the well-being of the entire 501(c)(3) community across all levels of government and all branches. No other entity wields the expertise, tenacity, and credibility needed to seize opportunities and overcome policy threats to keep the vital work of nonprofits strong. For example, we helped preserve more than 6.2 million nonprofit jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic by securing $50 billion in forgivable Paycheck Protection Loans. Our advocacy also led to groundbreaking changes in federal grantmaking rules that increased the minimum indirect cost rate and streamlined federal grant processes.
State chapters work on improving local and state-level legislation, while NCON does work at the federal level. As a leading example, and in its own words, it “secured $50 billion from Congress in forgivable PPP loans for nonprofits and helped more than 100,000 organizations learn how to access those loans.” NCON writes briefs ranging from submissions to municipal courts all the way up to the Supreme Court.
